JOY, pt. II

by David Jordan

Ebenezer Scrooge focused his energy on smallish things. Desensitized to the world around him, his life centered on wealth and pride. But pride comes before a fall. And focus upon the unimportant results in a life where little is meaningful and much is wasted.

How sad to gain the whole world but lose your soul.

Scrooge is fortunate, however. He has an unexpected life inventory. He discovers how how little he has accomplished and how insignificant money can be if not connected to meaningful relationships, tempered with generosity and motivated by compassion.

He discovers, too, an emotion he no longer thought possible. Ebenezer Scrooge stumbles upon Joy.

May the same be true for you this season. Allow generosity to guide your actions. Let compassion soften your heart. Enjoy the smiles and fellowship of others. And during these days of Advent, you will discover Joy.

Joy to the world, the Lord is come.
